Self-Hypnosis is good for relaxation and for giving yourself positive suggestions. Also if you were to become interested in becoming a hypnotist it is useful to be a good trance subject yourself.

I have listed an article on how to do self-hypnosis and another on how to program your mind during self-hypnosis sections below.

Good Luck
References :
http://www.hypnoticplanet.com/self_hypnosis_instruction.html

Self hypnosis is auto suggestions and progressive relaxation. You will get lot of information on self hypnosis on Internet and some text book are available on this subject. Self hypnosis helps you in relaxation and it decreases the psycho somatic effects of anxiety and stress. It is supposed to calm you down , make you less angry and increase you immunity power. After you reach a state of hypnosis , your EEG ( Brain waves ) pattern changes and also Bio - Feedback mechanism slows down.
References :
Simply self hypnosis is autogenic training as a relaxation technique developed by the German psychiatrist Johannes Schultz and first published in 1932. Schultz based his approach on the work of the German hypnotist Oskar Vogt. Hypnosis, self and directed, is in use today in many programs where it is the desire of or for the patient to change some self perceived or socially required character or social deficiency.
It is extremely relaxing / you feel relieved of Stress like never before. and no it is not like your out of it, you are just in an extremely relaxed state, still actually conscious of all around you and free to come out anytime you want.

How to takes a little practice: it takes concentrting/ focusing on and semi through a single point ( ex. focus on the corner of a wall in a room), then do relaxation breathing and combine it with a slow count back from like 20 toward zero. as you get in practice over time you'll be able to drop your self into a trance within a few seconds.
Have fun and enjoy.
References :
The benefits of self hypnosis is that you cannot de-hypnotise yourself and can maintain at a constant state of blankness. Watch a black-and white spiral disk spin around stare at it for 5-10 hours to self hypnotise. Otherwise just dangle a pendant and watch it swing for 6-8 hours.
