Ok here’s the deal. I have been an internet junkie now a days checking on ANYTHING that has to do with natural birth….Googling "Pain free birth" , "hypnosis birth", unassisted (out of curiosity), birthing in water, at home births, natural birth at the hospital with a doula, lamaze, yoga and ANY kind of techniques that would enable me to have a less complicated birth. I want to do a natural birth without the drugs but here’s the kicker….I’M A BIG SCAREDY CAT!!! So I’ve looked into the epidural as well. I just need advice on what women have used that really helped them through labor and birth…And believe me when I say I’ve been researching EVERYTHING…I want to be calm as possible because I really do feel that fear plays a big role when it comes to dealing with the pain of labor and birth….Right now I’m concentrating on walking and doing my prenatal yoga DVD to help me with a keen concentration on breathing. Any advice about women who’ve tried techniques that worked.
anxiety will make things worse so try to relax a little.. first off there is no such thing as a pain free birth without drugs that is. I am all for home births but I feel a professional of some sort needs to be there incase there are any complications with mom or baby, so i do not agree with unassisted births infact i feel those people should be charged with neglagence and endangering the welfare of a child. Now if your not good with pain you should have your baby in the hosp because if you decide at any point you can’t take the pain you have options there. You can have a doula there to couch you and keep you calm, use your breathing techniques. I had an epidural because the pain was so intense that i was vomiting the entire time, and I had a good experience with the epidural. It allowed my body to relax and i dilated much faster and only pushed for 1/2 hour. good luck

well, i ended up with a shot of morphine for mine. but that was really only because it was 37 hours from water breaking to delivery and I hadn’t slept AT ALL. so the nurse recommended something at about 3 cm to help sleep. which…bought me about an hour. I fully intend to do it all natural with this pregnancy and hopefully my water doesnt break/its not that long this time. Basically I just took very deep breaths through every contraction like, in for a five count, out for a five count. It seemed to work really well. Advice wise, I would say try not to let yourself get overwhelmed. I have NO IDEA how to surf at all, but in my head I kept picturing a contraction like a BIG wave. and as long as i stayed on top of it, i wouldnt drown. hahaha. i dunno, maybe im crazy, but it seemed to work. TRUST yourself that you KNOW you can do it. women have been doing it for…well…literally ever! good luck : )

i am planning on doing the same thing as well so i haven’t gone thru it but it seems like those that are properly educated are much more likely to actually be able to follow thru with their drug free birth plan. enroll in a class, either bradley or hypno-birth and do all of the pregnancy exercises that are suggested for your method. i can’t really say that i am scared of the pain because i do have a really high pain tolerance and am a very determined person and can do anything i put my mind to but once you go thru an accredited class you’ll probably feel more relaxed about it.

I had natural childbirth when it was a new thing, with a midwife…childbirth hurts, no getting around it, but it is temporary…it is all the frame of mind you take…the pain won’t last forever…I went all the way through all natural and I don’t enjoy pain, I just dealt with it by rolling with it…
