What’s the science behind it? I’ve just read legit studies on it, and it’s documented, so don’t say it’s impossible. I’m not the kind of person who thinks hypnosis can solve all problems, but this is fascinating really.
The power of suggestion is pretty cool. I had warty hands as a child, and the dr said he would rub them off, and began rubbing my hands for about 30-45 minutes. When he was done they were not calloused, and within a day or two they were gone.

How is hypnosis able to remove warts or moles?
Does Hypnosis work in regards to losing weight/controlling eating?
I am talking in regards to losing weight and controlling eating. Binge eating etc. I know you can get hypnotised and by hypnosis recordings off the internet. Has anyone every tried these methods?? Do they work?? Cheers!
A close friend did hypnosis to lose 40 lbs, she lost all and more. She now has another child and still kept the weight off.
What percentage of the time does hypnosis work?
I am interested in hypnosis and was wondering if it really works?
hypnosis does work, but the fact is it does not work most of the time. If it did there would have hypnosis clinics on every street corner. It also depends on what you want to use hypnosis for.
There are also better methods that are less expensive than hypnosis. Below is a press release that came out a few days ago on a method that is faster and easier to use than hypnosis. Hypnotherapist will hate it and feel threatened so don’t be surprised if you see thumbs down for the answer:

Hypnosis And Hypnotherapy Share Related Differences
Many do not understand the difference between hypnosis and hypnotherapy, as well as the difference in educational needs between the two fields. Hypnosis and hypnotherapy, while closely related fields, in today’s treatment market, play two related, yet different roles.
Attempts today to modify certain behaviors through hypnosis is blurring the line between hypnosis and hypnotherapy and with many questionable schools popping up claiming to teach people how to hypnotize others, some in just a weekend, the practice is starting to get a bad name. By entering the subconscious mind, a hypnotherapist can offer significant assistance for deeply embedded issues that other forms of medical treatment cannot reach.
Being able to tap into the subconscious through hypnosis and hypnotherapy has been recognized by many medical professionals as a means of supplying appropriate treatment. Since the 19th century hypnosis and hypnotherapy has been used as more than just a parlor trick. When the practice went to the stage, with a hypnotist selecting a patron from the audience and making them cluck like a chicken on stage, it did the practice a disservice.
Behavior Modification Makes hypnotic Inroads
People skilled at hypnosis and hypnotherapy found that by reaching into the subconscious mind, modifications could be made to a person’s behavior, which could be beneficial to the subjects. Many started using hypnosis and hypnotherapy to help people quit smoking or to help them lose weight by modifying their eating habits. As the popularity of this practice began to spread so did the need for more hypnotists.
Many still see the hypnotist dressed in a black top hat and long tails performing on a stage, thanks to old movies and carnival posters, but in reality those in hypnosis and hypnotherapy are usually similar to medical professionals, taking pride in their occupation and how they can help people make changes to their lives.
The main commercial difference between hypnosis and hypnotherapy is through hypnosis people relate it to the one-shot method of helping people quit smoking or stop overeating. Hypnotherapy, on the other hand, is often equated with helping a patient through deep-rooted issues in their subconscious. These typically take several sessions, sometimes years to fully examine and determine the best treatment method.
It is not unusual to have psychiatric professionals involved in hypnotherapy as they recognize the benefits of getting beyond a patient’s conscious thinking. By combining hypnosis and hypnotherapy with psychology a professional will be in a better position to offer help.

How do the effects of hypnosis differ from the effects of drugs?
Both hypnosis and drugs are known for making people do things that they would not normally do otherwise. However, hypnosis and drugs are two different mechanisms, so how do the effects differ?
Check out the video below. It’s about a man who hypnotize people to give him money. It came out on the news. The video has some good info on hypnosis.
Enjoy and good luck.
Clinical Hypnosis
Clinical Hypnosis is a procedure in which an individual is taught to enter a state of heightened focus, relaxation and suggestibility. This hypnotic trance state becomes the basis for alleviating or resolving medical and psychological symptoms, as well as enhancing performance and creativity. However, for many people hypnosis conjures up images of zombie-like states where you are under the control of someone else (a “Svengali”), or of a stage full of fools clucking like chickens. These images are understandable given how hypnosis is often portrayed by the media. As entertaining as these images may be, they also perpetuate myths and misconceptions that prevent many people from pursuing a treatment that can be a valuable clinical tool.
Myth #1: Hypnosis is an “unnatural state” of mind
Hypnosis is actually a natural trance state that almost anyone can relate to. Here are some familiar examples: becoming absorbed in a good book, day dreaming, driving a familiar route on a freeway but missing your exit because the mind was “somewhere else,” or watching a movie. Consider the movie example in more detail. The “reality” of a movie-going experience is sitting in a darkened room with several hundred strangers mesmerized by a flickering light on a silver screen. Yet if the acting, writing, and directing are captivating enough, the reality is suspended and whatever is being suggested (amusement, fear, sadness, etc) is what is experienced by the viewer. In this natural trance state you are in full control and could easily get up and walk away if you wanted to. Typically you leave only if what the movie is suggesting to you is not pleasing! All hypnosis is essentially self-hypnosis. The hypnotist is only a guide in the process of teaching the individual to bring about the trance state readily.
Myth #2: Hypnosis is sleep
Although hypnosis can produce profound states of deep relaxation it is not sleep. The hypnotized subject is actually aware and in control at all times.
Myth#3: Only the weak minded or gullible people can be hypnotized
Virtually everyone can experience hypnosis. People appear to have greater or lesser natural hypnotic ability. Generally those with higher levels of intelligence, creativity, and “fantasy-prone” behavior (such as day dreaming or being easily absorbed in books and movies) make the best subjects. Typically it is fear and misunderstanding that hinder someone from reaching deeper levels of the trance state. The hypnotic process does not involve pitting the will of the hypnotist against the will of the subject. The hypnotist is merely the guide for teaching the subject how to produce and utilize the hypnotic trance state.
Myth#4: One could end up “stuck” in hypnosis
Because hypnosis is such a pleasant state, many are reluctant to terminate it. Similarly, we might wish that a soothing massage continues indefinitely. However, even if the hypnotist were to “command” remaining in hypnosis, or if he/she has left the room, the subject would either fall asleep, or more likely simply open his/her eyes and be wide awake.
Myth#5: Hypnosis can coerce one to engage in immoral or unethical acts
Any suggestion can be rejected in hypnosis, especially those that violate a person’s beliefs or morality. The hypnotic subject is actually in full control at all times and will not comply with anything against his or her will.
Myth#6: Hypnosis is like a truth serum
Because the individual is in full control, he or she can also to edit whatever is said to the hypnotist. Just as a psychotherapy client selects his/her own level of disclosure during psychotherapy, the hypnotized subject has the same options. Hypnosis is not admissible in a court of law because distortions and actual lying is possible.

Self Hypnosis: The Trance Induction
This articles lays out the benefits of self-hypnosis and the techniques for going into a trance. Self-hypnosis is taught to all of our clients and nlp training students in New York who enjoy the benefits of being able to go into trance whenever they want or need
Why learn self-hypnosis?
Things can make us feel overwhelmed. During the past week I was working on my personal tax return as well as several client projects. The financial markets were in melt-down and my wife was fretting over the beating our investments were taking. One of my colleagues called me with some outrageous demand on my time I felt like screaming at him. However I was able to use self hypnosis to relax, refocus and respond in a calmer and more resourceful way!
In these troubling times it is easy to feel overwhelmed when we need all the calm and concentration we can muster. Of course we learn meditation or other techniques to find a calm space inside, however for a more rapid solution, self hypnosis may be the answer.
This makes self hypnosis a wonderful skill to have. We can become instantly calm and relaxed. This allows us to make better decisions, let go of uncomfortable memories and perform better in any area of our life we wish.
What Hypnosis Isn’t
There is a myth that we lose control when in a hypnotic trance. This is not true. Hypnosis allows us to become stronger and more resourceful.
As for the belief that you may lose control, I am reminded of the story of the lady who went to a hypnosis stage show. She volunteered to be one of the audience members hypnotized on stage and proved her-self very adept. She carried out every outrageous suggestion that the hypnotist gave; she quacked like a duck, and walked like a chicken. However, when the hypnotist suggested that the stage was a disco and everyone should dance she stood perfectly calmly and perfectly still, not joining in. After the show, the hypnotist approached her privately and asked her why she had joined in with every activity except the dancing. She replied, “Well, you see, in my religion, we don’t dance”. The fact Is that you are fully in control during hypnosis, it is just that critical voice that often stops you from enjoying yourself that is silenced.
How to start self hypnosis
What is the first step in self hypnosis? It’s experiencing a hypnotic trance. A hypnotic trance is really little more than a very deep and profound level of relaxation. It goes without saying that you should not experience trance while driving a car, operating machinery or being otherwise involved in something that requires you attention.
Find a suitable chair to sit in. We suggest it is not too comfortable so you don’t get so relaxed you go to sleep! Choose a time to practice when your can be undisturbed for 20 minutes.
The following represents one way to begin to experience trance. Become familiar with the instructions so you can easily give them to yourself without having to read them!
1. Once you have selected a chair, select a point on the wall in front of you and above eye level and stare at it.
2. Notice your breathing, breathe in, and relax out. With each breath out, feel a wave of relaxation wash over your body, from the top of your head to the tips of your toes.
3. Feel yourself sinking into a wonderfully relaxed state and say the following to yourself three times:
a. I am going deeper into trance
b. Any noises I hear will taker me deeper into relaxation
c. If anything around me requires my attention, I will instantly awake, refreshed and alert
4. Go even deeper into a state of deep relaxation. Feel your eyes getting more relaxed and feeling heavy. Still looking at the point on the wall, allow your eyes to open and close, opening as you breathe in and closing and you breathe out. When your eyes are totally relaxed allow them to remain closed, relaxing even more with each breath.
5. When your eyes feel so relaxed that you feel you could not open them if you tried, only then test them. Try to open them or notice if they just remain closed.
6. Feel your eyes stay closed and know that you are now in trance. As you relax even further, feel how good that feels.
7. Congratulate yourself on having a great hypnotic skill.
8. Now you can tell yourself: “I can easily and rapidly return to this relaxed state whenever I wish by squeezing my left forefinger and thumb together and breathing out to a count of 3-2-1.” Repeat this instruction 3 times.
9. Tell yourself that you will become happier, healthier, more confident and more successful with each day that passes. Repeat this three times.
10. Now say “As I count from one to three I will come fully awake feeling alert and refreshed. 1 I am beginning to awaken. 2 eyes opening, feeling good. 3 feeling fully awake, alert and great!

How did this saying of hypnosis can control people all start?
Question says it all. I been scared of hypnotism since I first learned the word. I believe a person should control him/her self their whole entire life. No one should control you with words. So they shouldn’t control it under their own will. Then I discovered it was nothing but superstition and just your own daydreaming. However, what gave people the idea that hypnosis is similar to mind control a bit? Just wondering. Thank you!
-Altonis
Hypnosis is a proven fact, but it usually only works on people that are open minded to it, and WANT it to happen to them. All hypnosis is, is a state of open mindedness, when you momentarily give up your will power, and let someone else control what you do. It sounds like a myth but it really works, but don;t worry cuz if you don’t want to be hypnotized you wont.
